1000 days after the start of the brutal Russian aggression, in total contempt of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Luca Beccari, commending this sad anniversary of the conflict, underlines that it is unfortunately still far from the end and indeed sees a military escalation that continues to cause deaths, injuries and destruction. New or consolidated military partnerships are strengthened every day between opposing alliances and peace seems to be increasingly distant. In recent days there has been a massive further use of missiles and drones deployed at a widespread level throughout Ukrainian territory. Civil buildings and critical infrastructures, including energy ones, were hit, just when the latter become essential to ensure protection from the harsh winter. Furthermore, the risk of nuclear accidents remains high, while the threat of the deliberate use of weapons of mass destruction continues to be a concern. In line with its thousand-year vocation for peace, the Republic of San Marino once again hopes for an immediate end to hostilities without this representing an unconditional surrender on the part of Ukraine and hopes that, through diplomacy and the collaboration of the International Community , it is possible to restore dialogue between the parties as soon as possible and achieve a global, just and lasting peace, in line with international law. Secretary Beccari also recalls the Republic’s still active commitment to the hospitality offered to over 400 Ukrainian citizens who took turns during these 1000 days, renewing the deepest gratitude of the San Marino institutions to those who opened their homes and offered a generous welcome.
