US Department of Defense
August 26, 2021
On behalf of the men and women of the Department of Defense, I express my deepest condolences to the loved ones and companions of the people who were killed and injured today in Kabul.
The terrorists took their lives at the same time that these soldiers were trying to save the lives of other people.
We accompany them with grief in their loss. We will see that your wounds are taken care of. And we will support their families in this process of devastating pain.
But they will not deter us from the task ahead.
To do less – especially now – would be a disgrace to the purpose of these men and women and to the sacrifice they have made for our country and the people of Afghanistan.
