State, Xunta and Concello hope to open the A Coruña intermodal in 2023 after signing the agreement | Radio Coruña

State, Xunta and City Council of A Coruña have sealed this morning their respective commitment to the infrastructure that is called to revolutionize the mobility of A Coruña and its metropolitan area. The Minister of Transport, Jose Luis Ábalos; the Conselleira de Infraestructuras Ethel Vázquez; and the mayor of A Coruña, Ines Rey have signed in Madrid the new framework agreement so that, finally, the intermodal station of A Coruña can get going when the one in Santiago de Compostela has already been inaugurated.

After more than a decade paralyzed, the administrations involved in the construction of this infrastructure will support today the document that sets the general lines for the development of the intermodal. A total of 80 million euros will be invested (far from the 180 contemplated in 2011).

It will still be necessary to sign three other specific agreements for the execution of the works, which the Regional Minister of Infrastructure, Ethel Vázquez, hopes will be in place next year, so she demands speed from the rest of the administrations in the management of their procedures.

The bulk of the investment, almost 50 million euros from the State budget, will be destined to the remodeling of the railway station to adapt it to the arrival of the AVE.

The Board It will be in charge of the construction of the new bus station, which will be linked to the railway station, after an investment of 17 million euros. Metropolitan buses will arrive at this new station, so a reorganization of the lines will be necessary every time the intermodal is in operation throughout 2023.

The A Coruña City Council is in charge of making the land available, the urban changes necessary for the work, the adaptation of the accesses and the construction of the underground car park, all for 14 million euros. The mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey, masks this work as one of the bets of the Pedro Sánchez Government in the city.

In essence, the action will involve the remodeling of the current San Cristóbal train station, the construction of a new bus station attached to the railway station and with underground parking, and the improvement of the urban environment. In this way, the new infrastructure will allow combining “different modes of sustainable mobility”, such as the train, the bus or the bicycle.
