The 34th State Individual Weightlifting Championship is upon us. On Saturday 1 October 2022 (from 10:00) the time has come for the Austrian women’s weightlifting elite to give their date in the event hall in Buchkirchen near Wels. Everything that has rank and name is at the beginning. For Lena Raidel, Victoria Steiner, Johanna Pfeilstöcker and Sarah Fischer it will be the last test before the U20 and U23 European Championships, which will be held in the Albanian capital Tirana from 15 to 25 October 2022. A total of 53 athletes, 16 of them from ‘Upper Austria will take part in the championships.
Union Buchkirchen has often hosted Austrian championships, the last time on 24 October 2020, when the Austrian championships for schoolchildren were held. In May 2000, the state individual championship for women and men took place. Between 1983 and 2005, Buchkirchen hosted various Austrian junior championships four times.
The leaders of Union Buchkirchen will do everything to present the athletes with a great environment so that they can achieve the established performance.
Group to group:
Bernadette Werle the favorite!
The departure will be Saturday 1st October at 10 am with the weight class up to 59 kg. 19-year-old Skye Tappeiner (SK VÖEST), who was scheduled for the U20 European Championships, has to do without the “National and European U20 Championships” due to back problems. It would certainly be a good duel between the 32 year old champion Bernadette Werle against Tappeiner. Bernadette Werle is clearly the favorite. Also in this weight class from Upper Austria, Claudia Krepper (ATSV Ranshofen). For 38-year-olds, hopefully, it could even end up with a medal. For 15-year-old Juliane Maderegger (Union Lochen) this is the U15 title. Sandra Hofer (Vöest) will return to departure for the first time since her baby’s break.
Victoria Hahn and Victoria Steiner in their favorite role!
At 12 noon the 71 kg and 76 kg weight classes will begin. In the 71 kg class, the 29-year-old national women’s coach Victoria Hahn of SK Vöest Linz, 15 times state champion and 12th at the European Championships 2022, is the favorite. For 30-year-old CrossFit career changer Anita Cosovic (KSV Pressbaum) and Anna Lamparter (KSV Rum), who are licensed up to 64kg but will definitely go up, there will be second and third place. Nadja Weingartsberger (Vöest) is making her state championship debut and 15-year-old Anna Denk (Union Lochen) will also start at 71 kg and go for the U15 title.
The 19-year-old 13-time national champion and 2018 U15 European champion is the clear favorite in the 76 kg class. There will be a tough battle between Nadine Kirchner (SC Kroftlaggl), Flora Regner (Barbell Tribe) and Stefanie Waldkirchner for silver and bronze medals.
Olympic participant Sarah Fischer gives her date in Buchkirchen for the first time!
The highlight will certainly be the 3rd starting group with the 64 kg and + 87 kg weight classes, which will start at 14:30. Because the best Austrian weightlifter Sarah Fischer, tenth at the Tokyo Olympics, 33 medals at the world and European championships, eight of them in the general class, will be at the start. There will also be Johanna Pfeilstöcker, newly crowned European U17 2022 Champion of Austria in the snatch and bronze medal in the duel. Both athletes are registered in the + 87 kg weight class. Birgit Mair (SK Vöest) will also start in the +87 kg class.
In the 64 kg class, the preferred role is of the reigning champion Paula Zikowsky of the AKH Vösendorf The 18 year old Lena Raidel (Union Lochen), European U15 vice champion 2018 and 6a of the U17n EM 2021 and 19 year old – the old Alina fighting for silver and bronze Novak of HSV Langenlebarn is a 9 times state champion. Melanie Starlinger and Linda Weyand (both Union Lochen) will also start in the 64 kg class.
Is there a medal for Katrin Walter of ESV Wels?
Weight classes 45 kg, 55 kg, 81 kg and up to 87 kg finish at 4:30 pm. In the lightest women’s weight class up to 45 kg, the only Austrian student champion of 14 years 2021 Jasmin Petscher of AKH Vösendorf is the favorite.
The 2021 winner Sophia Stieg of AK Union Öblarn is missing in the 55 kg. According to the starting list, the favorite would be the 7-time state champion, 41-year-old Christiane Schröcker of Union Lochen. She but she is struggling with a knee injury and she will likely not be able to participate. That would make SK VÖEST 30-year-old Lisa Katharina Pollak her favorite, but she in competitions weighed an average of 58.5 kg, which means she lost 3.5 kg. Also in this class is 31-year-old CrossFit career changer Katrin Walter of ESV Wels. If all goes to plan, Katrin could be awarded the bronze medal. 29-year-old Petra Schmutzer from Union Lochen from Salzburg is also aiming for a medal in this class. Masters champion Johanna Bruckbauer of ATSV Ranshofen will also start in the 55 kg class. Ukrainian refugee Veronika Honcharova (Vöest) 8th in the U15 EM 2022, according to the regulations, can only start in the junior class and is therefore the favorite in the U15 competition.
The preferred role in the 81 kg class is clearly with the 24 year old 3-time 2021 state champion Klara Franek of ATUS Bruck an der Mur. Vanesa Koprivica (Vösendorf) and Astrid Haider (Badener AC) fight for silver and bronze. In the 87 kg class, Laura Liebel of KSV Pressbaum is the favorite.
