The GSB is providing low-interest loans of a maximum of 50,000 baht with a maximum repayment period of five years to customers who may currently be in debt to illegal moneylenders elsewhere.
The GSB charges a monthly interest rate of 0.75 to 1.00% for its low-interest loan, which is provided specifically to pay off its illegal debts.
However, such low-interest loans cannot be used to refinance outstanding loans that GSB customers may still have with the bank, he said.
According to Ministry of Interior Undersecretary Sutthipong Chulcharoen, a total of 140,516 people have so far claimed to owe a total of 118 billion baht to a total of 109,951 illegal moneylenders in all provinces of the country.
