Organizers, audience and musicians all beamed at the benefit concert of the State Police Orchestra (LPO) on Thursday evening. On the occasion of its 50th birthday, the Main-Tauber district invited the population to the cloister courtyard of the Bronnbach monastery.

If the weather was bad, there would not have been a concert, which made the 150 people in attendance all the more happy on an almost summery evening. Frank Mittnacht, head of the cultural department, called it a “gift to the population” when he welcomed the event.

District Administrator Christoph Schauder admitted that the weather was a constant topic during the preparatory talks. Candles were lit in the monastery church and the plates were eaten, that worked, and everyone is looking forward to a great evening. Schauder also reported on a painting competition in which all 62 participating children should feel like winners. The proceeds from the benefit concert will go to volunteer work for young people.

“Happy birthday,” said principal conductor Stefan R. Halder, who also moderated, after James Barnes’ “Symphonic Overture” with which the LPO opened the evening. David Maslanka’s “Traveler” represented the musical transition from the world of work to retirement. While the first part was about the »rush hour of life«, as Stefan Halder called it, in the second part, which was getting quieter and quieter, a single gentle tone was heard on the vibraphone at the end. It then became jazzy with Leonard Bernstein’s »Candide Suite«. In the second part of the concert after the break, Spanish sounds were heard. Castanets sounded in Johann Strauss’ »Spanish March«.

A musical treat was the four-movement »Jazz-Concerto« for horn and wind orchestra by the young composer Fynn Müller. Soloist David Torres played with virtuosity and showed the tonal versatility of his instrument. Again and again there was applause in between, also for other soloists.

Radetzky March as an encore

After Chic Corea’s well-known »Spain«, the guests applauded the Radetzky March as an encore. As a thank you for the conductor, Christoph Schauder gave the “district administrator’s wine”, which was also available for the musicians. We can already look forward to the next concert by the state police orchestra, which will probably come to Bronnbach again in two years’ time.
