A good four months after the knife attack on a four-year-old girl in Wangen im Allgäu, the public prosecutor’s office wants the suspect to be permanently placed in a psychiatric hospital. The prosecution accuses the now 35-year-old alleged perpetrator of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm, it announced. The public prosecutor’s office has filed an application for so-called security proceedings.
The Syrian-born man with a Dutch passport is suspected of having attacked the four-year-old with a knife in April and seriously injured her. According to the police, the knife attack was unexpected. According to the investigation, the perpetrator and victim did not know each other. The girl had to undergo surgery. The four-year-old had been in the supermarket with her mother.
Following a detention order, the man was taken to a psychiatric hospital. A psychiatric report was also ordered. The motive was unclear. It was not immediately known whether a trial date had already been set at the Ravensburg Regional Court. The case had made national headlines. According to investigators, the man was known to the police.
If an application for security proceedings is made, proceedings will be initiated despite the possibility of incapacity to stand trial. The application takes the place of an indictment.
