Music “State Opera for All” in the open air

The “State Opera for All” attracted numerous people to the Bebelplatz next to the State Opera Unter den Linden in Berlin on Saturday evening. With a relaxed atmosphere, sunset and temperatures around 30 degrees, they could be part of a top-class classical spectacle free of charge. Giuseppe Verdi’s “Don Carlo” in a production by Philipp Himmelmann was broadcast live on a screen from the opera house.
Before the start of the performance and broadcast, Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner welcomed the fans of classical music outdoors. “Berlin’s DNA is culture, that’s where you can feel the enthusiasm,” said the CDU politician. “The “State Opera for All” is simply great with this atmosphere.”
Then the attention was entirely Verdi’s implementation of Friedrich Schiller’s story about futile love between political intrigues and the Inquisition. The performance was under the musical direction of Daniele Rustioni.
On this Sunday evening, the Staatskapelle itself moves directly to the outdoor square. The program for the concert includes the overture to “Rienzi” by Richard Wagner and Anton Bruckner’s seventh symphony. The Staatskapelle will then be conducted by Zubin Mehta, who is now 87 years old.
The events have been celebrated by visitors since 2007. After the corona pandemic, this has been possible again since last year without limited space and without compulsory tickets. According to the State Opera, the concert on Sunday will also be streamed live on the Internet via the Staatskapelle and State Opera websites.
