Accession enables additional funding for projects in the field of political education for educational institutions and NGOs.
Vienna (OTS) – The importance of strengthening political education is underlined with Vienna’s accession to the Austrian Society for Political Education (ÖGPB). The ÖGPB supports political education in adult education through educational offers, advice and project funding.
“Politics and education are inextricably linked. Political education is the prerequisite for people of all ages – children and adults – to participate equally in our democracy and to be able to actively shape our society. It is important that these skills are promoted at all levels and at all ages. Because if you don’t know anything, you have to believe everything! ”, Says Vice Mayor and Education Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr.
In addition to offering workshops and training courses for adult education, the ÖGPB also specifically supports projects in the field of political education. Starting next year, educational measures up to a maximum amount of 4,500 euros will be funded by the ÖGPB. Events from adult education institutions that are active at the municipal, regional or state level are funded.
“Democracy lives from the acceptance of the citizens and democracy is not just a form of government, but a way of life,” says Dr. Gerhard Bisovsky, Chairman of the Society for Political Education and Secretary General of the Association of Austrian Adult Education Centers. That is why “political education is also a core topic of adult education, which sees its task in giving everyone access to participation in democracy and promoting equal cooperation and coexistence,” said Bisovsky.
The managing director of the ÖGPB Mag.a Rahel Baumgartner is convinced: “Entering the State of Vienna is a very important step for political adult education in Austria. By providing funds for the projects of the Viennese adult education institutions and NGOs, this education sector will be upgraded as a whole. ”
The ÖGPB is a non-profit association that was set up in 1977 on the basis of a resolution by the Governors’ Conference of the federal government, the federal states and adult education associations. The State of Vienna participates with a membership fee of around EUR 40,000. The funds that are distributed during the annual project funding in the respective federal state are financed by the state’s membership fee and its doubling by the federal government.
A representative of adult education from the Education and Youth Department is sent to the State of Vienna. “We are pleased that this important area of adult education work is strengthened and supported by joining the ÖGPB,” said Brigitte Bauer-Sebek, head of the Education and Youth Department, in conclusion.
The resolution of the accession of the State of Vienna with effect from January 1, 2022 was passed on June 15, 2021 at the meeting of the Vienna Provincial Government. For project funding you can contact https://www.politischebildung.at/projektfoerderung/ausschreibung/ apply.
