State of Emergency, Kim Jong Un Deploys Military – FAJAR

FAJAR.CO.ID – The state of emergency in North Korea made the country’s supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, decide to deploy the military.

State media KCNA reported that the military was deployed to a number of areas affected by the floods. This is because the disaster caused by the rain that fell for days has increased anxiety about food shortages.

KCNA said the ruling Workers’ Party’s Central Military Commission held a meeting in the eastern province of South Hamgyong to discuss the damage and recovery from the disaster.

The meeting itself was not attended by Kim. But he conveyed a message via party officials that the military must make efforts to recover and deliver the necessary supplies.

“It was also emphasized that he called for revival and encouraged (party) officials… to launch recovery efforts skillfully and unyieldingly,” KCNA said.

KCNA did not specify the extent of the damage. However, the report said that the military commission was exploring emergency measures to rebuild disaster-affected areas, restore people’s lives, prevent the coronavirus, and minimize damage to agricultural land.

The meeting comes amid concerns over a crisis in North Korea’s closed economic system, which has been hit by international sanctions due to its nuclear and weapons programs.

In June, Kim said his country was facing a food crisis. He also mentioned the coronavirus pandemic and last year’s typhoon.
