Hurricane “Henri” is approaching – warning of storm surges on the US east coast
The mega-storm is due to hit the east coast of the USA on Sunday noon. Flash floods and floods are expected. The power could go out for thousands.

The first rains of hurricane «Henri» have already reached the east coast of the USA, and from Sunday morning (local time) on, storm surges could cause floods.
The hurricane was moving towards the east coast early on Sunday at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour and wind speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour, as the US hurricane center in Miami announced in its latest situation report from Sunday 5 a.m. (local time).
The island of Long Island off the US metropolis of New York and parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut could be affected by the storm surges. “Henri” is expected to hit land in the course of Sunday morning or early afternoon in Long Island or southern New England, according to the hurricane center. The US broadcaster CNN wrote that there has not been a storm of this strength in the northeast of the USA since 1991, and on Long Island not even since 1986. Flood warnings were issued for more than 35 million people.

In New York City, a major concert with dozens of stars had to be canceled due to a severe thunderstorm to mark the hoped-for end of the corona pandemic in Central Park.

In Massachusetts, parks and beaches are said to be closed until Monday. According to forecasts, the electricity could fail for up to 300,000 people there.
“Henri” would be the first hurricane in the New England states in 30 years. In 1991, Hurricane Bob killed 17 people there. The last hurricane warning for New York was issued in August 2011 when cyclone “Irene” occurred. A year later, tropical storm “Sandy” caused great damage, 44 people were killed and the power went out in large parts of Manhattan.
