State of Emergency Declared in New York City After Lightning Flood

New York: A state of emergency has been declared in the area following the lightning flood in New York City on Friday. Although the rains have eased slightly, the authorities have warned that vigilance should continue.

After heavy rains and storms, many subway lines in the city were filled with water and these were closed. Mayor Eric Adams said that people should not take to the road if they can.

As the national highways are under water, most of the traffic is blocked. Up to 20 cm of rain has been reported in some places. Officials have warned that rain may continue in the coming days.

Governor Hochul declared a state of emergency in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley following heavy rain. One terminal of the Layardia airport was closed. People have been advised to remain vigilant and not go to flood-prone areas.
