A state of emergency has been declared in California due to a severe winter storm that will sweep through the US state on Wednesday and Thursday (local time). Heavy rain and snow are expected along with strong gusts of wind. In several towns in upstate, residents have been called to evacuate.

Help is ready. Fire engines and ambulances, among other things, have been set up in strategic places to be able to intervene quickly. Residents have also been asked to prepare. For example, they were called upon to stock up on food for at least three days.
California has been dealing with severe weather and flooding since last week. According to US media, at least two people were killed. The storm is expected to lose strength on Thursday (local time).
