State of Decay 2 Receives a New Update – Introducing ‘Curve Balls’

It’s been over 5 years since developer Undead Labs released State of Decay 2a zombie-themed survival game for the Xbox and PC platforms.

Today the company Undead Labsacquired by Microsoft shortly after the launch of State of Decay 2, has announced a new free update for the game, but it will be largely created by a new team of developers.

A post on Xbox Wire announced that the UK Wushu Studios will continue development and support of State of Decay 2, as most of Undead Labs is working on the previously announced State of Decay 3. The first free update will be released on September 18th.

This update adds something to State of Decay 2 called “curve balls”and is intended for gamers who may find the game repetitive after a while.

The new menu will feature curveballs that will periodically appear – each with its own narrative – offering new objectives, rewards, enemy types and more. The curveball can be positive (such as finding increased loot) or negative (such as enhancing normal zombies in several ways); they may be temporary or objective; they can affect enemies, your survivors, or other NPCs. Basically, any element of the game that you may have become comfortable with can and often will change.

These changes will also apply to zombies in the game. “Curve Balls” can cause undead to make stronger attacks, enhance their vision and hearing, and even cause them to explode or “carry a stench that suffocates and drains the stamina of any survivor in the vicinity.” Curve balls can also weaken zombies.

Despite the State of Decay 2 update, Undead Labs is still working on the next game in the series, State of Decay 3. This was first announced in 2020, but since then there has been essentially no information about the game’s status.
