KEEL. The state government wants to further strengthen the importance of music schools in the educational landscape. Therefore, they should be secured by a music school promotion law. It should be available in 2024. “Our goal is to provide music schools across the country. This, too, can enable equal opportunities regardless of social background,”
said Education Minister Karin Prien today (May 11) in Kiel. It is also planned to further expand and improve the cooperation between music schools and general education schools through the law. Music schools are an essential cooperation partner of day-care centers and schools and are therefore of particular importance for high-quality all-day care, the minister added.
She emphasized the special value of music schools for cultural education. Like music lessons in school, they would allow children and young people to participate in the cultural events of our society. “Cultural education strengthens personal development and promotes resilience. It develops the ability to perceive and judge and promotes the experience of self-efficacy.”
And in order for cultural participation to become a common good, a rich and accessible educational landscape is needed. Music schools would also have a positive effect on recruiting music teachers. Minister Prien: “They strengthen the children’s and young people’s interest in music and a musical education.”
The cooperation of the State Association of Music Schools with the Institute for Quality Development in Schools Schleswig-Holstein (QSH) and the Musikhochschule Lübeck in the consortium of the KMB.SH have already shown some best practice examples.
