State Epidemiologist Reports on Subsequent Behavior of Covid-19 and Possibility of Annual Vaccines for Vulnerable Groups

Torres Meza was invited to an event at the 22nd Military Zone in Santa María Rayón, where he was questioned about the decision of the WHO decision to declare the covid-19 pandemic over.

In this context, the specialist explained that the number of hospitalized in the State of Mexico it has decreased drastically this year, as in the country and the world, which is why the declaration was made.

“It has practically decreased in 2023; Less than 3 percent of those hospitalized, we continue to consider adult patients over 65 years of age with comorbidities, unfortunately with incomplete vaccination schedules or without vaccination yeThey are the ones who have been hospitalized,” he said.

He clarified that the disease has not been eradicated and the statement was only for raise the maximum alert for the pandemic, that is to say, a health problem at the international level of high contagion, but which continues to occur in some places and which affects vulnerable groups.

“The consideration of a disease of international importance as such has already been decided by the World Health Organization and now each country will have to make its own declarations, and now see the behavior as an endemic disease… we will now see the behavior of covid-19 as an endemic, if it has winter behaviors, but already in another area, in another scenario, ”he explained.

Because it has not been completely eradicated and although there are fewer cases in the State of Mexico, recommended continuing with basic sanitary measures in order to avoid any contagion; He even pointed out that there are possibilities that the vaccine against this virus will be applied annually to vulnerable groups.
