The nationwide trend is also evident in the region around Düsseldorf: The constituencies in the state capital, the Rhine district of Neuss, Mönchengladbach, the district of Viersen, the district of Mettmann and Krefeld remain in CDU-Hand. The Greens are recording strong growth in votes in the region.
CDU wins all four constituencies in Düsseldorf
In the state capital, the CDU all four constituencies defended both the first and second votes – albeit in some cases much narrower than in the last state election. “People have given us confidence, we have done extremely well for five years and we will continue to do so”says CDU-Candidate Angela Erwin. In constituency III, she had a particularly close race for votes with Stefan Engstfeld of the Greens. With a difference of two percentage points, Engstfeld just missed the first green direct mandate in Düsseldorf.
Won in constituency II CDUcandidate Marco Schmitz with only four percentage points SPD– Candidate Oliver Schreiber. The Greens have them in large parts of Düsseldorf SPD replaced as the second strongest force.
damper for SPD in the south of Krefeld
Of the CDU-Victory is a damper for them, especially in Krefeld SPD: Especially in the south of Krefeld, the Social Democrats figured they had a chance after losing the constituency in the last election by just 0.1 percent. Despite the losses, direct candidate Katharina Nowak still sees a chance for a majority in the state parliament: “You can talk about many coalitions, I believe that the traffic light in the federal government is doing a good job and it’s doing well in NRW could manage.”
As in all constituencies in the region, the FDP also suffered a defeat in Krefeld. “We were the engine in the state government, that has been good for the country over the last five years, so the result is very bitter for us.”says direct candidate Daniel Dick.
In the last election five years ago, most of the votes in our region went to the CDU. In the state elections of 2012, large parts were still in SPD-Hand been: Düsseldorf, Krefeld, parts of Neuss and Mönchengladbach.
