Details: According to declassified court documents, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation first learned of Alstrop’s likely involvement in the storming of the Capitol through social media posts and subsequently discovered that he was working for the State Department.

“The FBI also determined that Alstrop, through his employment, was familiar with the security and protection of government officials or high-security locations such as embassies,” the indictment states.
Prosecutors say Alstrop was found on police body camera video outside the Capitol. The footage shows him leaving the building and walking around the restricted area, filming it.
The US State Department, when contacted by CNN, confirmed that it is aware of the charges, but emphasizes that we are talking about “a third-party contractor who provided security services” for the department.
Alstrop is not the only current or former federal employee involved in the storming of the Capitol, CNN notes. Others charged include a former Economic Crimes Enforcement Administration agent and a former Donald Trump-era State Department official.
At least 1,265 people have been charged with crimes related to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, and more than 900 have pleaded guilty or been convicted, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Early August 2023 charges in the Capitol storming case announced to Donald Trump himself. He faces four counts of conspiracy to deceive the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official investigation; obstruction and attempted obstruction of an official investigation; conspiracy to violate rights.
