Mönchengladbach Mönchengladbach becomes a model region in the fight against pandemics. NRW Economics Minister Andreas Pinkwart announced in a press conference on Friday which cities and districts will be model regions. Cautious easing is to be introduced there as a test.

The decision has been made. Andreas Pinkwart, Minister of Economic Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, announced in a press conference on Friday which municipalities will be model regions in the fight against pandemics. Mönchengladbach is one of them.

A total of 46 districts and cities had applied, said the minister. The quality of the project proposals was high. Instead of six to eight as planned, first six and then another eight municipalities should now be able to implement model projects in two seasons. Mönchengladbach will be part of the first group to start on April 19th.

In the selected cities and districts, the previous restrictions will be relaxed under close observation and accompanied by special measures. Among other things, the corona tracking is to take place digitally and corona registration apps are to be used.

There is also a special focus on testing. One model is, for example, that after a negative test, citizens get a kind of 24-hour ticket and with it Paid content be allowed to attend events.

The selection criteria also included the cities and municipalities providing scientific support for the project and involving hospitals, doctors and laboratories. However, the project can also be canceled in the selected municipalities if the incidence increases significantly or infection clusters arise that are not traceable.
