State co-financing for the OS qualification tournament in beach volleyball is expected to be almost twice less than requested

LOK emphasizes that it “does not support the reduction of the initially requested and actually required amount of co-financing (400,000 euros), taking into account the need to adequately ensure the 2024 CEV beach volleyball Nations Cup final – the continental Olympic qualification tournament in Latvia”.

The LOK proposes to transfer the 400,000 euros necessary for the organization of the competition to the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Interior.

In a similar tournament, the duets Anastasija Samoilova/Tīna Graudiņa and Mārtiņš Pļaviņš/Edgars Točs qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, both pairs winning fourth place in Tokyo.

International competitions of various ranks have been regularly held in Jurmala since 2014, and this is one of the reasons why this year the organization of this important tournament has been entrusted to Latvia.

The general secretary of the LVF is confused why, for example, basketball and hockey are given the full amount of funds for holding qualification tournaments, but volleyball – almost twice less than what was requested and accepted by the Latvian National Sports Council in November.

Tunte emphasizes that the LVF is not informed why the amount required for the tournament is less and why it is exactly 230,000 euros.

The tournament, in which 12 duets will compete in men’s and women’s competition, is planned to be held in Jurmala from June 13 to 16.

Women’s and men’s teams from Latvia and from seven other countries will compete in Jurmala in each gender group, which previously qualified in the qualification tournaments held in the spring of 2023. Four more countries will be determined in the upcoming qualification tournament in May this year.

Jurmala hosted the European beach volleyball championships in 2017 and 2020.
