STORTING (Nettavisen): – Pollution is free, says SV fiscal policy spokesperson, Kari Elisabeth Kaski, to Nettavisen.
The government support party is far from satisfied with the proposal for the state budget published on Monday. Now they need several changes before they can support the budget.

– It will take longer
SV deals specifically with the climate profile needed in next year’s state budget.
– It will not make it easier to reach climate targets. So this is a budget that means it will take longer to reach the climate goals than it was a year ago, concludes Kaski.
She particularly accepts that the government will make it cheaper for petrol and diesel cars, by reducing the traffic insurance fee (previously the annual fee). At the same time they increase this same tax for electric cars.

– I believe we can raise car taxes in a way that means most people come out in the red, by making it more expensive to drive a fossil fuel car , but where most people get a bigger tax cut. Then you come out in the red, while at the same time using the tax and tax system to cut greenhouse gas emissions, says SV-toppen.

– More must be done
Kaski is clear that SV will not agree to a budget agreement where the climate cuts are not greater. As a result, there will be a battle over car taxes in budget talks.
– We cannot have a budget agreement that does not do more to reduce climate emissions, she says, before emphasizing:
– Norway can’t just complain about buying itself off with quota purchases. Because it just means we spend a lot of money on changing other countries, instead of doing it here at home.

She also wants SV’s previous victory, which they will not find in the budget proposal.
– The government should have followed the SV agreement in this budget, which will make it easier to choose an electric van. That has not been done, and we must continue to do so so that craftsmen and other businesses can choose zero emissions over fossil fuels, says Kaski.
SET UP: Petrol taxes are increased by 7 øre in the government’s proposal for the state budget for 2025, but SV believes it is too little.
– It’s too small
In addition, the government support party will have higher fuel prices. In the state budget, the government proposes to increase the CO₂ tax on petrol by 53 øre per litre. At the same time, the road use tax on petrol is cut by 46 øre. This means that the increase will be 7 øre.
– It is too small to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. So the reduction is offset by cuts in the road use tax, so in practice it is not more expensive to choose fossil fuels – and then pollution will be freed, says Kaski, and finally says :
– We need to make it more expensive to release greenhouse gases, and on the other hand give enough tax cuts to people so they don’t miss out. This is the only way we will succeed in reducing the differences – and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
