Single mothers can receive additional benefits from the state if they can prove the non-participation of the father of the child in their lives. Ekaterina Stenyakina, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labour, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, told URA.RU about this.
“Unfortunately, in Russia, situations are not uncommon when a woman or a man raises a child on their own and does not receive established assistance from the state, since the father (mother) is known and legally they are. However, voluntary financial assistance or the payment of alimony is avoided in every possible way. In this case, it is necessary to act within the framework of existing regulations. It is necessary to establish and prove the fact of non-fulfillment by the second parent of their obligations for the material support of the child. Then apply to the court with a petition to deprive him of parental rights. This will allow you to get the official status of a single mother / father. After that, the parent will be able to claim appropriate social guarantees from the state,” said Ekaterina Stenyakina.
At the same time, the State Duma deputy added that fathers who raise a child on their own can, like women, receive maternity capital. “According to current regulations, even those women who are raising one child can use the mother capital program. Such changes to the federal law were adopted and came into force on January 1, 2020. By the way, all these measures also apply to single fathers, ”Stenyakina emphasized.
