State Audit Office Raises Concerns Over Illegal Use of Funds and Additional Benefits for State Officials

In addition to the illegally used funds in the organization of the special trips of the former Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņas, the auditors of the State Audit Office have paid attention to one more aspect – the additional benefits that will accrue to state officials.

One of them is allowances for the business trip per diem. It is established that, for example, in the case of the head of the government, they can be as much as 30% of the amount. For example, if an official goes on a business trip to Belgium or France, where the fixed amount of daily allowance is 60 euros, then he can receive an additional 18 euros.

During the reporting period, the auditors concluded that the maximum amount of bonuses was received each time without any justification.

VK representatives emphasize that this practice has already become systematic.

“We may have already talked about such an attitude here. When we asked, it turns out that it has simply been going on for years,” says Inga Vilka, a member of the State Audit Council.
