Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Shocking news comes from a row of world tycoons. This time, Amazon boss Jeff Besoz is no longer the number one richest person in the world according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List, as of this Monday (9/8/2021), even though nominally he is the richest person.
His position was replaced by French billionaire Bernard Arnault and his family, who control the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy business.
Alnault who is also Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) is also one of the few ‘centibillionaires’, or those who have a net worth of more than US$ 100 billion or equivalent to Rp. 1,450 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 14,500/US$). .
The current net worth of the LV boss is estimated at $197.5 billion, according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List.
Bernard Arnault’s success in overtaking Bezos is one of the reasons the performance of his shares has improved in recent weeks, while Besoz’s Amazon shares have not shown optimal performance.
While Bezos was also busy launching himself into space on his Blue Origin rocket a few weeks ago, Amazon’s stock didn’t appear on the stock market.
Even Amazon shares slumped on Friday (6/8) to a level of US$ 3,344.94 or equivalent to Rp. 48 million/share, after having reached the highest level in a month on July 12 at a price of US$ 3,761 on the US Nasdaq Exchange, with stock code AMZN.
Meanwhile, Bernard Arnault, who is still on the ground, his LVMH stock actually flew and moved upwards towards the green zone, and on Friday the stock rose slightly and closed at EUR 698.2, or equivalent to Rp. 12 million/share (exchange rate of Rp. 16,894/euro) on the Paris Euronext Exchange.
In the past month, LVMH’s shares rose 5.28%, while Besoz’s Amazon shares fell, down 10.07%.
The rise in LVMH shares was driven by the company’s strong performance in the first half of the year, driven by strong demand for luxury goods in Asia, the US and Europe for fashion and leather brands such as Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior. This is in line with the condition of the world economy which is gradually recovering.
LVMH manages a portfolio of 70 luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Sephora, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Christian Dior and Tiffany & Co, which were acquired last year for $15.8 billion.
LVMH managed to record a significant increase in net profit in the first half of this year. The Group’s net profit reached EUR 5.29 billion or equivalent to Rp 89 trillion, a drastic increase from the 2020 net profit of EUR 522 million.
This net profit also increased 62% from the pre-pandemic mid-year profit, where LVMH recorded a net profit of EUR 3.27 billion in the first 6 months of 2019.
The increasing wealth of the LVMH boss, made the position of founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, down to second place with a wealth of US $ 193.3 billion or equivalent to Rp. 2.803 trillion.
Currently, there are nine individuals who enter the club ‘centibillionaire’ or wealth exceeding US $ 100 billion.
The following is a complete list of the 5 richest people in the world according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List
1. Bernard Arnault (US$ 197.5 billion) with the majority of wealth coming from multinational companies and conglomerates that focus on luxury goods, LVMH, and headquartered in Paris, France.
2. Jeff Bezos (US $ 193.3 billion) who obtained the greatest wealth from ownership of shares in Amazon.
