Starting Today, YIA Line Airport Train Is Back Operated

Harianjogja.com, JOGJA – The Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) Airport Railroad, which had been stopped, was resumed starting Sunday (23/8/2020).

“Later it will be run again gradually for Airport Trains, not all of them. For this airport train, there is no need for a rapid test, because it includes local trains. However, passengers still have to comply with the existing protocol, “said Public Relations Manager of PT Kereta Api Indonesia Daop 6 Yogyakarta Eko Budiyanto, Sunday (23/8/2020).

There will be at least four airport trains that go through the Yogyakarta-Wates-Wojo-Kutoarjo-Kebumen route which will start operating on Sunday (23/8/2020) – Monday (31/8/2020). It is hoped that with the re-operation of the Airport Train, it can facilitate public access.

Eko added that in general, on the long weekends of independence day and Islamic new year, the number of train passengers in general experienced an increase in the number of passengers. “Indeed, it has increased yesterday that the Managing Director of KAI also checks the readiness of trains that were not operating, and will be operated again in stages,” he said.

He said the Covid-19 prevention protocol remains a major concern. In addition to distributing masks and education to passengers during the independence celebration yesterday, Eko said that improved facilities, such as water taps for washing hands that have minimal touch have also been prepared. It is hoped that the community will feel safer and more comfortable riding the train.

Regarding the plan to re-operate the Airport Train, Acting Temporary (PTS), Agus Pandu Purnama welcomed it. “It is good that it can increase accessibility, the easier it is for people to access YIA,” said Pandu.

Pandu said there was no significant increase in the number of plane passengers during the long weekend – almost the same as during the weekend. “Long weekends are still almost the same as weekends around 4,500 per day. On a normal day it is 4,000 but sometimes it can be less, and it could be more, ”said Pandu.

He said the most destinations for flights were flights to Makassar and Balikpapan. In addition, he said there was a new flight route recently, namely Palembang. “There is Palembang which is the last addition, because Garuda sees many students from Palembang studying in Jakarta or Jogja,” he said.
