Starting Thursday, New Yorkers Will Get Maximum Food Aid Payment for March – NBC New York (47)

All New Yorkers enrolled in New York’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive their maximum allotted benefits for March.

The measure announced by Governor Kathy Hochul on Thursday, March 10, will provide all enrolled households with a supplemental SNAP allowance this month, including those who have already reached the maximum benefit level.

The additional benefits amount to $232 million in federal funds in total.

“No New Yorker should be struggling to put food on the table,” Hochul said in a news release.

“Ensuring that New Yorkers who meet the criteria get the maximum level of food benefits will provide much-needed relief to millions of families, thereby ensuring that no one is left behind as our economic recovery proceeds.”

All SNAP households outside of New York City can expect to see additional benefits posted to their account by the end of the day on Thursday, March 17.

SNAP households in the five borough region of New York City should see their benefits between Thursday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 30.

The emergency assistance supplement will be provided to households that do not normally receive the maximum benefit allowed per month in SNAP, a federally funded program overseen by the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

Those households already at or near the maximum benefit level ($835 for a household of four) will receive a supplemental payment of at least $95.

New Yorkers continue to rely heavily on SNAP, with about 1.6 million households statewide enrolled in the program in January, an increase of nearly 1% from the previous month. About 2.8 million New Yorkers received benefits in January, the most since June 2021.
