The price of beef will rise between $8 and $10 per kilo for all bone-in cuts starting this Thursday, El Observador reported and Montevideo Portal confirmed.

The president of the Union of Meat Vendors, Alfonso Fontenla, told Montevideo Portal that after receiving the list of refrigerators, the “rise is general for all cuts with bone”, with the only exception of the specific strip roast that is exempt from Value Added Tax (VAT).

Along these lines, the trader pointed out that in the case of boneless cuts, at least so far this week, there have been no changes in the price lists of meat suppliers for the local market.

So far this year, the price of beef has increased by an average of 25% and this is the first increase since the government promoted the VAT exemption for barbecue, an initiative that also included an agreement with the main vendors and butcher shops to sell that particular cut for around $230.

According to El Observador, the most demanded cuts with bone at this time of year are the shoulder and the needle, which will have a value starting this week of around $370 per kilo.
