Volksbank Viersen got off to a good start in the new financial year. This was explained by the two board members, Jürgen Cleven and Michael Willemse, at the meeting of representatives in the Festhalle Viersen. They decided on a dividend for the comrades of four percent again. And: The ATM demolitions burden the administrative result.
In the first quarter, the desire for construction financing and the investment in profitable financial investments continued, the two board members explained. The positive trend due to the global crises – Corona, war in Ukraine and inflation – will probably not continue as strongly as in the first quarter. However, Volksbank Viersen is confident that it will still benefit, because in these times and especially with complex financial matters, advice is indispensable. “Specialists can find customers in all six branches in Viersen, Dülken, Süchteln, Amern, Waldniel and Niederkrüchten.”

The 2021 financial year went very well for the bank: the growth figures were in the double digits in all areas, and the balance sheet total exceeded the billion mark for the first time. Strong increases were recorded in the areas of loans, deposits and in the customer volume served. Loans were up 11.4 percent, deposits were up 11.1 percent and customer volume was up 10.8 percent. In terms of deposits, time deposits and demand deposits increased significantly. Savings deposits declined slightly.

High expenses for flood damage in Dülken and blown up ATMs (three blasts in 2021) made themselves felt in the income statement, which caused the total administrative expenses to increase slightly. Nevertheless, the operating result was very positive at 1.1 percent of the balance sheet total. For comparison: The average result of all Volksbanks in the association area is 0.8 percent.

Tax payments have also increased: Of the almost four million euros, the municipalities of Niederkrüchten and Schwalmtal and the city of Viersen will receive more than 2.2 million euros. The Volksbank distributed 110,000 euros from their profit savings to clubs in the region.
