Start Setting World AIDS Day on December 1 Today

TEMPO.CO, JakartaWorld AIDS Day is commemorated annually on December 1.

This commemoration aims to raise awareness of the global epidemic of AIDS or acquires immunodeficiency syndrome and the spread of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) as well as to show support for people living with HIV, and remember those who have died of HIV disease.

From the official page WHO, World AIDS Day was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1988 to facilitate the exchange of information between national and local governments, international organizations, and individuals.

When the first World AIDS Day was held in 1988, an estimated 90,000 to 150,000 people were infected with HIV, which causes AIDS.

In two decades more than 33 million people were living with HIV infection. The history of the entry of HIV and AIDS in the US began in 1981. Since the first AIDS case was reported, about 25 million people have died from the disease.

Although there is an assumption that the origin of HIV is from Africa, but United States of America is the first country to reveal the existence of this virus to the public.

The date-setting World AIDS Day was first conceived as a means of making the most of the coverage of the western media, especially after the US election ended but before the Christmas holidays.

Quoted from Very Well Health, World AIDS Day is carried out by two James Bunn and his colleague Thomas Netter who is a journalist who serves at WHO as officers of the Global Program on AIDS.

Next up: James Bunn sure…
