To talk to farmers about the current challenges and opportunities of the new common agricultural policy from 2023 and other important topics, Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig is taking a ‘security of supply tour’ across Austria. The beginning was in Salzburg.
The consequences of the crown pandemic, the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, climate change: we live in an age of multiple crises. Despite these challenges, our farmers reliably supply us with regional food.
Planning security is key to ensuring that our national agriculture remains crisis-proof and that food supply is secured in the future. The new common agricultural policy will provide this planning security from 2023. Many farmers are wondering what changes the SPLIT carries with it.
“To talk about the current challenges and the SPLIT as a future program for rural areas, direct trade with our farmers is particularly important. In order to provide our family farms with the best possible support, we, the federal government, have put together comprehensive aid packages. Furthermore, we implement targeted support measures for agriculture ”. Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig stressed.
9 million euros were made available for the production of fruit and vegetables in greenhouses, already disbursed at the end of September. The € 110 million security of supply package will be paid for in December. Around € 5.7 million will go to around 7,500 farms in Salzburg. In addition, an electricity expenditure contribution of € 120 million is being prepared for agricultural production.
Totschnig: “The purpose of the tour is also to present the different services of the national agri-food sector. With the Austrian eco-social agricultural policy, we have a national, multifunctional and sustainable agriculture. Thanks to our farmers, we have a high degree of self-sufficiency when it comes to staple foods. Which pays off in times of crisis. Every federal state, every single region and every single company makes an important contribution to this. We have to say thank you for this! “
