Start of the pilot project “Youth.Climate.Now – Youth Climate Councils in Dresden and Leipzig” · Leipziger Zeitung

The Leipzig regional group of BUND is pleased to announce the start of its new pilot project. The project entitled “Youth.Climate.Now – Youth Climate Councils in Dresden and Leipzig” is funded by the Free State of Saxony and implemented as a joint project in both Dresden and Leipzig.

The aim of the project is to involve young people in the democratic process and to promote their participation in the area of environmental and climate protection. Through active participation in the Youth Climate Council, young people experience self-efficacy and can network across regions. In workshops on various environmental and climate topics, they develop demands that they hand over directly to the city administrations of Leipzig and Dresden.

Paula Krollik, project coordinator of the Youth Climate Council, emphasizes: “In view of current political developments, it is more important than ever to involve young people in democratic processes at an early stage and to strengthen their understanding of democracy. Our project offers young people the opportunity to raise their voices, to actively participate in decisions and thereby help shape positive social change.

I am all the more pleased to be able to carry out this special project in collaboration with the Dresden regional group. It is the first time that a pilot project is taking place between the two regional groups of the BUND Saxony regional association with the largest number of members!”

Young people between the ages of 14 and 17 who are already involved in existing environmental and climate groups at schools can take part in the project. Two students from each environmental group are selected to become part of the Youth Climate Council in Leipzig. In addition, the participating working groups are provided with specific educational offers, qualified consultants, workshop leaders and tailor-made educational materials.

We are currently looking for schools with existing climate groups that want to take part in the project. Interested schools and working groups are cordially invited to contact Paula Krollik by October 18th to take part in this pioneering project.

Further information will soon be available on the website www.bund-leipzig.de
