I work in a high school and have been given the responsibility of starting an e-sports line and it’s a lot of fun!
The fact is that we have thought of everything?
We will have 18 desktop computers and 1 server for slightly different purposes.
We will have 1 Gbit up and down. However, this only goes so far when you have short lessons and 18 computers need to update games. The idea is that we’ll be running something like TrueNas on the server with some sort of cache function for games and windows updates.
The computers will have 2.5Gbit ethernet and the idea is that the server has a 25Gbit nic card.
There must be a switch with enough 2.5 TGbit ports for computers and 25 Gbit inbound.
The idea is to somehow ensure that the computers boot up in the evening or similar and refresh themselves so that it’s just a matter of starting the class smoothly.
We’d like to be able to record games to be able to go back and see student development and be able to effectively broadcast games to a projector and Twitch type.
Should we have some sort of “internet cafe software” or should we be doing clean installs of windows?
Should you try to patch an image of a ready-made Windows installation for easy reinstallation over a network?
Yes, there is simply a lot to think about! Got any ideas for something we haven’t thought of maybe?
