Stars forward Tyler Seguin to undergo surgery, expected to miss 4 to 6 months

Stars Forward Tyler Seguin to Miss Several Months After Hip Surgery

Dallas Stars fans were dealt a blow this week as the team announced forward Tyler Seguin will undergo surgery to repair a lingering hip issue. The procedure, scheduled for Thursday, will address a condition known as femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), a common ailment where extra bone growth around the hip joint causes pain and limits movement.

"According to the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, femoroacetabular impingement, or FAI, is a condition in which extra bone grows along one or both of the bones that form the hip joint — giving the bones an irregular shape. Because the bones do not fit together perfectly, they rub against each other during movement. Over time this friction can damage the joint, causing pain and limiting activity,” the team stated.

Seguin, who had been experiencing what was initially described as a lower-body injury, had already been sidelined for several games earlier this season. Despite these setbacks, the veteran forward had shown impressive form in the games he did play, racking up an impressive 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in just 19 games. "Tyler Seguin is set to undergo surgery," the team announced on Wednesday.

Immediately preceding the surgery announcement, the Stars placed Seguin on injured reserve, indicating the severity of the situation. He is expected to be out of action for the next four to six months, a significant absence for the Dallas squad.

Seguin’s surgery will be performed by Dr. Bryan T. Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
