A gala was held on the sidelines of the Olympic Games, where Olympic champions Carl Lewis and Michael Phelps as well as the IOC Olympic Refugee Team were honored for their services to sport.
The aim of the “Sports for Peace” event was to celebrate the social values of sport and to honour selected sports personalities for their significant charitable commitment to social issues.
The guests included high-ranking IOC officials as well as current and former sports personalities.
The event was hosted by Sports for Peace, a platform where athletes can come together and promote values such as fair play, tolerance and the Olympic ideals of peace and freedom.
Numerous stars appeared on the red carpet in front of the luxury hotel Four Seasons George V in Paris.
Sharon Stone jumped for joy when she saw Carl Lewis and was speechless when Michael Phelps entered the room.
Many shared Stone’s enthusiasm for the two legendary Olympians. Phelps and Lewis were honored for their outstanding contributions to sport and philanthropy.
Cyclist Masomah Ali Zada accepted the award on behalf of the IOC Olympic Refugee Team.
As Phelps accepted his award, the record-breaking Olympian said his goal was to promote a healthy lifestyle and teach swimming skills to families.
Stone, honorary chair of Sports for Peace, said peace can be achieved by raising awareness among influential figures like Phelps and Lewis.
A one-on-one training session with Lewis was won at an auction for the Carl Lewis Foundation. The foundation supports a wide range of activities, including raising awareness of organ donations.
