After “Star Tonight”, at the end of the 1990s, and more recently, “Belgium’s Got Talent”, RTL tvi is returning to talent shows. In “Starmaker”, Sunday at 8:45 p.m., a candidate realizes his dream and puts himself in the shoes of his idol.
To judge the talent of the one-night stars: the singer Anggun (49 years old), the host (and sometimes singer) Maria Del Rio, the imitator Michaël Gregorio and the multi-talented artist Agustín Galiana. Who will be the most convincing?
Anggun lifts a corner of the veil for us.
What is your role in this new show?
I give advice and reassure candidates. These are Mr. and Mrs. Everyman who introduce themselves, they are not professionals. We saw a person pass by who had never sung anywhere other than in their car. And there, she finds herself on a grandiose stage in front of an audience and cameras. She was dead with stage fright, but her performance was moving. I wasn’t used to seeing that anymore because we know that on TV, everything is worked out and carefully planned. Here, we are faced with raw talent who are discovering the scene. response_l1000>
response_l1000>Is it difficult to disappoint them?
There are choices that are obvious. For some, there is no photo and in general, the public follows us in our decisions. I would like to point out that we are not looking for imitators, but for the person who best embodies the star. response_l1000>
response_l1000>What is the difference ?
A candidate can be an Elvis Presley lookalike, but without necessarily singing in tune or being “too” professional. Another may not look like the King at first glance, but have a stunning voice. It’s very nuanced. Our job is to find someone who offers something more in their tribute. These are people who love to sing. We had a hairdresser who sang for her clients and a nurse who sang to reassure her patients… These candidates have the generosity and desire to share of an artist. Finally, they simply tell themselves that showbiz is not for them, but for one evening, they change their lives. response_l1000>
response_l1000>In recent months, you have played the role of juror, investigator, coach… Has the record crisis pushed you to accept these functions?
Florent Pagny explained to me that it was thanks to “The Voice” that the new generation knew him. It was the parents who were talking about him in front of the TV show. Being a juror is a way of being in the news, so that we talk about our records and our shows. We adapt to the market to be able to continue our profession because album sales are one zero less than twenty years ago… éponse_l1000>
