Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Starlink has obtained an operating permit in Indonesia and has started operating to provide internet services to end consumers through collaboration with internet interconnection service providers (network access provider) local. The first Starlink connection began with a trial in the National Capital (IKN) of the archipelago after Eid.
Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi stated that the Starlink internet trial schedule at IKN was still being discussed. However, he confirmed that Starlink could directly provide internet to consumers in a B2C scheme.
He emphasized that Starlink had followed all the same regulations as other internet companies before being given permission to operate.

Director General of Postal and Information Technology, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, explained that Starlink is expected to start testing services at IKN after Eid.
Starlink applied for two operating permits in Indonesia, namely as a VSAT provider and as an internet provider (ISP).
“So they probably already have comply for internet. He works closely with NAP. Maybe the PKS hasn’t been completed yet [perjanjian kerja sama],” he said.
He explained that Starlink plans to operate nationally. For VSAT services, Elon Musk’s company has built hubs and other infrastructure.
However, Wayan emphasized that the company that manages Starlink services in Indonesia is a company domiciled in Indonesia, not global Starlink.
“So Starlink global and Indonesia are different. They are just Starlink global, if Starlink Indonesia holds VSAT and ISP permits then it will be like other organizers in Indonesia,” he said.
Starlink Indonesia will continue to purchase ground station equipment and internet access from Starlink, which is then used to support their VSAT and ISP services.
“Buy your internet from Starlink global, don’t confuse it with them, that’s why you have to build a hub here,” said Wayan.
