Starlink introduces global roaming service

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has invited some customers to try out its new Starlink global roaming service. So far the price is $800.

Global roaming allows the user to be mobile and have satellite internet in almost any country in the world. The service is intended for more affluent travelers and businessmen who travel a lot and need fast Internet, independent of ground infrastructure.

According to screenshots of the email posted on social media, the service allows Starlink users to “connect from virtually anywhere on land in the world.” There is also a more expensive option, including the water areas.

Global roaming customers will be charged $200 per month for the service and will pay a one-time fee of $599 for the Starlink kit, which includes an antenna to connect to the satellites, a tripod and a WiFi router, SpaceX said in the email.

Customers can only pay in USD. Within 30 days, they can return the kit and request a full refund.

The company warned users to expect high speeds and low latency, as well as short periods of poor or no connection. SpaceX added that this is expected to “improve dramatically over time,” according to the screenshots.
