Starlink gets paid ‘Portability’ option for mobile use – Tablets and phones – News

SpaceX will give Starlink customers a paid option that will also make satellite internet available in places other than their home. The option costs 25 euros per month on top of the usual costs. The service cannot be used while the user is in motion.

Service users have received an email announcing the option. The ‘Portability’ function costs 25 dollars or 25 euros per month. This allows users to use their Starlink dish while on the go. With a normal subscription, Starlink is only available at the customer’s pre-specified residential location. The mobile service can be used wherever Starlink is currently available† Europe is now also included.

Customers can only use the mobile mode within their own continent. If European users want to use the service in America, they have to sign up there with a new location. If customers use the service in another country for more than two months, they must also re-register their location.

SpaceX writes on a support page that it offers a ‘best fort service’. This means that the company makes no guarantees about stability and availability of the service in other countries. SpaceX also warns that it is not possible to use Starlink while a user is on the road, for example in a car.

Tweakers bought a Starlink dish last year and made a preview about its practical use.
