A huge breakthrough in speedrunning Starfield came courtesy of a YouTube commentator who accidentally discovered a way to skip to save time.
We’ve already seen Starfield be completed in under three hours in so-called “glitch-free” runs, in which glitches and other tricks are not allowed. However, a recurring problem for speedrunners is that the animation where the train in New Atlantis leaves the station adds seconds, and possibly minutes, to the speedrun as the player has to use the train repeatedly throughout the run.
And now, a little more than three months after the release, a bypass for the annoying train has finally been found. In a tweet, one gamer said that one YouTube commenter suggested jumping in front of the train and activating the train’s fast travel feature would completely eliminate the scene where the train leaves the station.
Everyone is equally stunned by this discovery – including the commenter himself, who wrote that he simply assumed everyone already knew about this method. As it turned out, no one knew about this method except himself, and now information about it is simply flying around the entire community of Starfield speedrunners.
The result can be seen below. YouTuber and speedrunner, jumps right in front of a train in New Atlantis and uses its fast travel to instantly transport to another area. There is no longer any animation of the train leaving the station.
The current record for a glitch-free run of Starfield is 1 hour, 37 minutes and 24 seconds, according to speedrun.com. Now, depending on how quickly everyone masters the new pass, we could see that time drop to below 37 minutes.
