While developers from Bethesda Softworks boast a record number of players in Starfield, sales of the space action game tell a completely different story. If at the time of release the project could boast of excellent demand among players for a variety of editions and versions, now few people are interested in a large-scale RPG. Analysts report a strong decline in game sales to critical levels.
As noted by Christopher Dring, editor of the authoritative publication GamesIndustry, the most noticeable drop in Starfield sales occurred in the UK. Large online platforms and brick-and-mortar retail stores have seen sales of all physical titles decline by up to 87%. According to analysts, the situation in other markets is not so dire, but in Europe and the USA, interest in the game is also falling sharply. They estimate the decline in game sales by up to 60% and consider this a very bad sign for such a major release from Bethesda.
As for digital sales, the situation is much better for Starfield. Analysts also note a drop in demand, but it certainly does not exceed 30-40%. However, it is not possible to calculate the actual number of digital copies sold. Industry experts believe that the project will retain its popularity only within the Game Pass subscription; sales of the game are unlikely to reach the levels of The Elder Scrolls or Fallout series.
