So we finally got it. We finally know a new release date for Bethesda’s highly anticipated space RPG Starfield. Along with that, however, we also hear about another delay, as the game will not arrive until June, as originally promised. Todd Howard officially announced today that Starfield will be released a few months later. The new date is September 6, 2023.
The announcement of the new date, straight from the mouth of Todd Howard, was preceded by a new minute-long trailer, which gave another look at what awaits players among the stars and in space. In the end, there is no expected big presentation, which has been increasingly speculated about recently, but the important thing is that we can now fix on a specific date. At the beginning of this year, however, Bethesda assured players that Starfield would indeed be released by June, or rather in the first half of the year, although some began to doubt it in connection with Redfall. However, this promise was not kept after all, because the developers simply need some extra time to fine-tune everything and the game was not finished.
“It’s huge,” Todd Howard declares in the video, as we see a cut from the studio where the developers are testing the game and working on it further. “We know you’ve been waiting a long time to play something new from us. Believe it or not, we have a similar thing – we miss it. We really can’t wait for you to play it, so thank you and see you soon,” Howard finished. Instead of a flight to the stars, a special Starfield Direct presentation awaits us in June, which will take place on June 11 right after the Xbox Games Showcase. During the Direct, the developers will take us behind the scenes of the development and, above all, present another hearty demonstration of the gameplay. According to Howard, they have a lot to show, which can’t be doubted with the size of the game and the standalone event beyond the regular Showcase.
Before the delay to the first half of this year, Bethesda originally intended to release Starfield on November 11, 2022, exactly ten years after the magical date of November 11, 2011 (11/11/11), when The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released. We saw a previous gameplay preview on June 12, 2022 during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. So let’s hope this situation doesn’t happen again, and that after this year’s Showcase and Direct, the newly set date of September 6, 2023 will continue to apply. Starfield will be released on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and will be available on Game Pass from day one. You can find more about the game in our archive.
