Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone reports that he is currently focused on a new, unannounced game. In an interview with Twitch user Zach Hartman, the developer reports that he “don’t know yet” whether Stardew Valley will receive new updates.
The developer will announce this during a live stream after the first official Stardew Valley Cup speedrun competition, also writes Eurogamer. In it, Barone reports, among other things, that he is not currently focusing on new updates for Stardew Valley, a Harvest Moon-style farming game that came out in 2016.
Late last year, the developer introduced update 1.5 to the game, which added local split screen, new characters, and a new farm layout, among other things. The developer is now stating that there are currently no other major updates in the works and that he is focusing on a new title instead.
Barone shared few details about the upcoming game, although he does announce that it is a new one pixelart-game with a top-down-perspective. “I may be announcing what it is pretty soon. No one knows right now,” Barone said during the stream. “What I will say is that it is again a pixel art game and has a top-down perspective, similar to Stardew Valley.” The developer also mentions that the game is in some ways similar to Stardew Valley, although it is not yet a farming game.
