The twelfth year of the StarDance dance competition goes to the finals. Already on Saturday evening, it will be clear who will become the winner and will go down in the history of this competition, just like the other winning couples. As always, Marek Eben and Tereza Kostková will not be missing, who revealed how they prepared for individual parts with Mark and what moment over the years stuck in her memory the most.
You have been hosting StarDance with Mark Eben since the beginning, i.e. since 2006. Have you played so well during that time that you don’t even have to prepare for the final night, which is usually full of tension and emotions?
Practically since the beginning of the competition, we have always had the same pattern according to the BBC. For myself, I think that Mark and I have been matched since the beginning, when we moderated the competition. We were probably already matched at the casting, the creators of the show certainly wouldn’t hire someone who didn’t know which beat. But of course it has gotten worse over the years of moderation. Definitely yes. Unfortunately, the format of the show only lets you go somewhere, you have limited options.

So you don’t have much opportunity to improvise?
On the contrary. Improvisation is the main thing. Only the introduction follows the script that Marek always writes, and I then follow it up. At the end, we will say what will happen next, and we also have to follow certain rules during each episode, such as introducing everyone, saying what dances will be danced, etc. That’s a given and it’s the same things over and over, we can only say them every time bit differently.
The rest is improvisation?
Yes, otherwise it is live improvisation on the spot, we are constantly in the present and react to what is happening. Basically, we don’t have much to try in advance except to stand on camera. Otherwise, we are just reacting to what is happening.

In the twelfth year of StarDance, the hundredth episode of the program was broadcast, where memories were made. What memory stuck in your heart?
It’s usually an event that stands out from the rest. In the case of StarDance, one that happened last year deviates. I caught covid and naturally got banned from moderating because of it. My beloved colleague and friend Aleš Háma jumped in for me on the show. They formed a men’s pair with Mark. Due to the fact that I was sick, Aleš had the opportunity to host the StarDance show, which he and his wife like very much, so it worked out well, and I was glad that he tried it and that he could.
Did you watch them on TV?
Yes, I was watching from my bed and I was very happy that I could see the show once again like everyone else. (laughter)

We are at the gates of this year’s finals, do you have a favorite?
I do not have. People always find it hard to believe, they feel that I have to root for someone, but that’s not the case. People watch the competition, we prepare it. Viewers vote and vote, I don’t send votes to anyone. I take it as a job that I go to with other colleagues. I host, they dance, sing, rate or otherwise create the show. We are there at work, I mean that in the best sense of the word.
So you’re not rooting for anyone?
I’m rooting for all of them, because their order is unfortunately to fall out gradually, so I think of all of them, I feel sorry for all of them, I keep my fingers crossed for all of them and I admire all of them. The fact that I can see that someone is doing more or less well, someone has moved on, someone has surprised… I can see that, I’m not blind, but it’s not the subject of my assessment.

Can’t wait for StarDance to end?
I’ll be honest, with everything I have now, I’m glad I’m sleeping. I can’t imagine having anything more to do now. Christmas will soon be here, so I hope I can relax a bit. Otherwise, we still play in the theater, if anyone wants to at Christmas, they can go to the Kalich Chamber Theater, where I play in several shows and one with my mom.
