Starbucks to Change Shape of Ice Cubes: What You Need to Know

Starbucks Will make some changes to the product. Starbucks plans to change the shape of its ice cubes.

Reported CNN, Friday (19/5/2023), Starbucks will change the shape of the cubed ice that has existed so far into a smaller form of ice and is claimed not to melt easily. Ice cubes are the main ingredient in Starbucks products, moreover 75% of what Starbucks sells are cold drinks, whether they contain coffee or not.

Starbucks customers in the United States (US) have started talking a lot about this change. Initial reaction to the new ice cube plans on Reddit was mixed, with customers generally excited about the new ice cubes.

Some noted that the new ice cubes would be chewier or thinner and claimed they were similar to the ice used by Sonic and the Coffee Bean. But others are worried the new ice cubes could dilute the drink or change the texture of their Frappuccino.

Starbucks called his new ice cubes ice nuggets. The company claims the ice nuggets don’t melt any faster. Switching to ice nuggets is also guaranteed not to mean customers will get less ice, as the barista uses the same ice scoop.

CEO Starbucks Laxman Narasimhan sees room for improvement in his coffee business, including installing new equipment. Starbucks also has a goal of halving its water use by 2030.

A new ice machine that produces ice nuggets will use less water and will be rolling out to all of its stores over the next few years.

“There is more work to be done to adapt our stores to the demand we are seeing. We will advance our technology, improve the way we innovate our equipment, and also more fundamentally how we refocus on fundamental operations and execute better.” Laxman said.
