Starbucks Olive Oil Beverages: Caution, May Cause Embarrassing Trip to the Bathroom

A new coffee drink from global coffee chain Starbucks has been embroiled in a puzzling controversy that it promotes bowel movements.

According to CNN on the 10th (local time), reviews are coming up one after another on Internet communities saying that they went to the bathroom often after eating Starbucks’ new drink ‘Oleato’ with olive oil.

Oleato, which is made by adding olive oil to various coffee drinks, was first introduced by Starbucks in Italy last February, and is currently sold in some stores in Seattle, Chicago, and New York.

Starbucks expected to change the coffee industry with a new flavored drink that is also good for health, but the reaction is driven by the bathroom story.

CNN analyzed that the combination of the stimulating caffeine ingredient and the laxative olive oil may have resulted in an unexpected result called ‘makeup run’.

Nutritionist Erin Palinske-Wade says, “Mineral oils, such as olive oil, are used as a remedy for constipation because they soften the stool and make it easier to go to the toilet.”
