Star Wars The Ascension of Skywalker: Does the Last Trilogy Really Deserve To Be Removed From The Cannons Of The Franchise?

Last week we learned that Lucasfilm as well as Disney planned to withdraw the last trilogy of the guns of the franchise Star Wars. Information that will have surprised members of the community, some of whom have shared their enthusiasm as well as their pessimism. Although the studios have not confirmed anything yet, this decision seems surprising and this to the point of wondering if the last trilogy really deserves to be excluded from the canons of Star Wars. Because although L’Ascension de Skywalker as The force awakens and The Last Jedi have each received mixed reviews due to a lack of originality vis-à-vis the first episodes, or a too wide taking of freedom, each of the films directed by J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson, still managed to bring new and interesting elements to the trilogy.

While introducing new characters, episodes 7,8 and 9 saw the iconic trio of the saga return, which breathed a wind of nostalgia into the trilogy. If there was copy and paste, The force awakens just like its suites, made the bet to offer surprising deaths, like that of Han Solo or Snoke, but also to link Kylo Ren and Rey through the dyad offering scenes of original dialogue and sharp at the level of the setting on stage. If some assume that The Last Jedi would have ruined the last trilogy, JJ Abrams trying to make up for what he could with L’Ascension de Skywalker, it is clear that the two directors had different visions on the future of the saga and that it is simply not a disaster, which deserves that we remove it from the canons.

Following on from the original saga, fans and studios alike must understand that these episodes now exist in the timeline. By following certain original characters and borrowing the atmosphere and the decorations of the first episodes, Disney and Lucasfilm have taken up the challenge of offering a sequel to Star Wars thanks to the latest trilogy. It therefore seems incomprehensible if not unfair – because of strong fan criticism – that the studios withdraw the latest trilogy from the canons. In addition, production risks being confronted with a difficulty: that of explaining this famous withdrawal. Will she do it thanks to a new feature film, a short film or will she talk about it in a new trilogy. In any case, this method does not appear to be ideal, as studios risk attracting the wrath of the community again. Star Wars.

The solution evoked by Bounding into Comics would be to use The Veil of the Force. A conception introduced in an episode of Star Wars Rebels which means “a world among worlds“If several fans are familiar with it, it will be difficult to introduce such an idea, in order to remove the last trilogy from the canons, when Dark Rey could be at the heart of the story. The link between The Veil of The Force and the scene of its appearance could indeed allow such a ploy. Nevertheless, in light of all that has been formulated above, the last trilogy does not deserve to be erased from the canons of the saga. The studios will take care to offer a more exciting story with the new trilogy, thanks to the Luminous project. Enough to move on and let the last trilogy exist for what it is!
