Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty has revealed some fresh details about Ubisoft’s recently announced open-world game.
The creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, Julian Gerighty, spoke in an interview about how big areas we can expect for each planet. This is especially interesting in the shadow of Starfield, which will contain more than 1000 planets, but most of them are procedurally generated and many things will not be possible to do on them. Ubisoft, on the other hand, plans to handcraft every planet and location for Outlaws, although it’s not yet known how many planets that means.
“It’s a rough analogy, but a planet is about the size of two zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. There could be two or three zones. But this is not an epic ‘recreate all of England’ approach. The bottom line is that the Outlaws planets will be a manageable size for both the player and the developers at Ubisoft Massive,” said Gerighty.

Still, we can expect this open-world Star Wars game to be a major interplanetary adventure, even if it falls short of Starfield. In addition, the above statement is only a guideline, as Odyssey’s regions are of different sizes. It also turned out that even though we saw the launch from the planet into space, we won’t be able to just fly freely in the space above the planets: Instead, there will be areas near the orbit waiting to be explored, where you can find things like asteroids or abandoned space stations. Gerighty also poked a bit at Starfield:
“We’re really focused on what open world means to the player, which is the total freedom of approach. Honestly, that’s fine with me: I’d rather have a handful of locations built specifically to interest and entertain me than thousands of planets,” he added.
Announced in June, Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to launch in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC via Ubisoft Connect.
