Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to release sometime in 2024. But due to a mistake by Disney, we now know that it is scheduled for release towards the end of the year. If it doesn’t get pushed back, we can start to look forward cautiously.
Massive Entertainment is very busy. The studio continues to support The Division 2, a sequel to the game is in the works, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora just released, and then it’s also working on Star Wars Outlaws. So there’s a lot to do and they also have quite prestigious franchises under their thumb, which means they can’t afford to make any major missteps.
As always, there have been shifts
Originally it looked like the new Star Wars game would also be released soon, more specifically in the first three months of 2024. It wasn’t until October that there was a rumor that a big game had been postponed internally at Ubisoft and that appeared to be the case Star Wars Outlaws.
This changed release now appears to have been accidentally confirmed by Disney. A Disney Parks blog post states that Star Wars Outlaws is planned for “a late 2024 release.” This was revealed by IGN. The blog post has since been updated by Disney, and a Ubisoft spokesperson revealed that while the official release date is still “2024,” everything points to a release towards the end of the year. After all, “end” 2024 is still in 2024, so it’s not a lie from Ubisoft.
Explore planets as a smuggler
As the name of Star Wars Outlaws suggests, in the game you play a criminal, more specifically the smuggler Kay Vess. Together with her friend Nix, she tries to find freedom and a new life in the universe. After all, the underworld is thriving at this time – between “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” – but it also carries some risks.
During the adventure you can visit several planets, all of which are quite large. According to creative director Julian Gerighty, the planets are about the size of two to three locations in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Hopefully they’re not only big, but filled enough with interesting places and things to do, unlike Starfield. As is well known, Bethesda got it wrong because there were usually only repetitive things to do on each planet and few places that were really important. Actually, it was more like deserts in the universe, so let’s hope that’s different with Star Wars Outlaws.
