Each planet in Star Wars Outlaws will be roughly the size of two to three zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
In a recent interview with the EDGE-Magazin verriet Creative Director Julian Gerighty new details about Star Wars Outlaws.
He confirmed that every planet in the game is so big that even with high-speed vehicles, traversing it should feel like a real “journey”. The size of a planet corresponds to about two or three zones in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.
However, players will not be able to travel completely freely, they cannot fly freely over the planet and there will be fixed landing and take-off areas. Gerighty also confirmed that each location was “manually crafted” and the studio didn’t procedurally generate an entire planet.
Other points from the interview:
The emphasis is on “full freedom of approach” when it comes to encounters. Exclusive quests, merchant prizes, locked areas can be accessed through the reputation system. If you’re not in the favor of a faction, they can send people to hunt you down, including fines. Players will not be completely free to travel, they will not be able to fly freely across the planet, and there will be fixed landing and takeoff areas. Nix (protagonist Vass’ alien companion) can be controlled by players to attack enemies, activate unreachable buttons, create distractions, and pick up heavy weapons from fallen enemies. According to Massive, Nix is a cross between Watch Dogs’ Spiderbot, BioShock Infinite’s Elizabeth, or the BD-1 from EA’s Star Wars Jedi games. Each planet is said to be so large that traversing it feels like a journey, even in a fast-moving vehicle. A planet corresponds to two to three of the zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The locations are all “handcrafted” and there are no procedurally generated planets. Inspired by toys from the 1970s, Vass’ ship Trailblazer is said to be “very, very simple”. The game is set between Empire and Jedi, allowing Massive to recreate that “feel”. The studio has developed technology that “mimics some of the lenses from the 1970s.” The design of the ND-5 droid (Vass’ companion) was carried over from its predecessors. = Partner & affiliate links: Possible listed offers are usually provided with so-called affiliate links.
