Star Wars Outlaws: A New Narrative Direction and Galaxy-Defying Adventure

If there’s one thing that’s annoying about Star Wars stories, it’s that some of them can make you think they’re going to save the galaxy, but have little or no real significance to the story going forward. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a good example of a story that showed us an incredibly cool character, but was killed because it didn’t exist in canon.

However, Star Wars Outlaws wants to avoid this problem by removing the game’s narrative from any ties to the fate of the wider galaxy. In a conversation with GameInformer says Navid Khavari, who is the game’s narrative director, that “Kay’s dream is to get a point that will allow her to live a free life and find her place in the galaxy. This is especially true after a robbery goes wrong and she unexpectedly becomes one of the galaxy’s most wanted. She has to go into the underworld and take on jobs for criminal syndicates, aiming to pull off one of the biggest heists the galaxy has seen.”

“[Kay] has yet to make up her mind about the struggle between the Empire and the Rebellion… just like most in the galaxy at this time, she sees [Imperiet] as an oppressive force that has spread throughout the galaxy. But they are really just an obstacle in her way on her journey through the underworld.”

This doesn’t mean there won’t be a lot at stake, just that we’re moving away from the typical melodrama between Sith and Jedi that we’ve seen in many Star Wars stories. That means the Empire will almost certainly take a backseat this time.
